Whoopi Pushing Dirt

Do you know what kind of notoriety you have to have to be featured in a yo mama joke? And this woman has it all! One of only 16 EGOTs, she is a very talented comedian, actress, author, and TV show host and she's been doing it for well over 30 years. Caryn better known as, Whoopi Goldberg has certainly became a household name over her career starting out as a comedian and actress and now one of the host of the talk show The View. Whoopi Goldberg won our hearts over with The Color Purple, Sister Act and, my favorite, the hyena on The Lion King. Whoopi is very outspoken on The view and loves to share her opinion on gay and trans rights as well as rights for the African American community and women in general but before all the fame Goldberg was actually working in construction along with a number of other odd jobs. Pre Color Purple, Whoopi was a brick layer in California and helped build walls at the San Diego Zoo. She was so good at it she got invited to join the bricklayer's union. “I needed money, and I needed to work, so I figured I’d rather lay bricks than lay men,” said Goldberg. Though she is no longer using her brick laying talents, she has urged Disney to build a Wakanda attraction. Women Pushing Dirt honors Whoopi for her dirt pushing and empowerment of women.

Talking about this period of her life, the Sister Act star said:”I needed money, and I needed to work, so I figured I’d rather lay bricks than lay men.”
